About Odisha Research Centre
WHO WE ARE
An interdisciplinary research institute established in 2023, ORC undertakes innovative and critical explorations into the diverse dimensions of Odisha’s history, culture and society.
Supported through grant-in-aid from the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), ORC is committed to advancing research. It encourages academic collaborations by documenting and interpreting Odisha’s rich historical and cultural heritage through a multidisciplinary lens.
The Centre goes beyond preservation to bring historical knowledge and cultural insights alive for the contemporary world. Its research, grounded in empirical inquiry and informed by multiple disciplines, seeks to deepen our understanding of the social dynamics of contemporary Odisha by understanding the present through the historical trajectories that have shaped Odisha.
ORC explores the complex and evolving relationship between history, arts, artefacts, literature, architecture, folk traditions, dance and other cultural practices, examining their enduring influence on society and their continuing relevance in an increasingly globalised world.
By bridging deep-rooted heritage with academic rigour, ORC seeks to create a vibrant knowledge ecosystem that connects the past with the present, encourages new scholarship, nurtures intellectual collaboration and places Odisha’s rich cultural and intellectual legacy within wider national and global conversations.
